Our Camden town Balboa series are back, with the SLOW BALBOA track to be continued!

Monday nights, 5 weeks, 12-19 May and 2-16 June.

  • 7:30 PM - Slow Balboa
  • 8:30 PM - Balboa and Bal-Swing Intermediate

PLEASE NOTE, that THERE IS NO CLASS ON 26 MAY, Spring bank holiday Monday!

We think of these series as cumulative, with the level of difficulty increasing towards the end of both tracks. To get the most out of them we recommend taking either as a course. It is still possible to book individual classes.

In this block we will continue on our Slow Balboa journey for our earlier class of the night. There won’t be a session dedicated to the very fundamentals, but if you were not with us in March you’re still welcome to join - as long as you have some previous knowledge of Slow Balboa. Please feel free to get in touch if you’re unsure, too!

SLOW BALBOA

We will keep working on the mechanics of Slow Balboa, both body movement and footwork. And of course there will be a lot of attention to rhythm: understanding it, feeling it and exploring the possibilities of playing with it.

Who is it for?

  • If you’ve learnt some Slow Bal already and want to continue, the course is an opportunity to do so.
  • This isn’t an introductory course, but we’re there to quickly fill you in if a piece of the puzzle seems missing.

Other requirements:

Connection. This course is for dancers that are comfortable with the idea of being chest-to-chest with their partner.

While dancing socially we welcome any kind of connection that doesn’t cause discomfort, for this course we would like to stay true to Balboa in its original form. Things we will teach require body-to-body contact, so we will assume you’re Ok with it if you are in this class.

Shoes. Please wear slippery shoes. Leather or suede soles are ideal.

BALBOA AND BAL-SWING INTERMEDIATE

  • Each week we give you tips and feedback on core mechanics of the dance, while adding new content for your Bal-Swing vocabulary.
  • Each lesson will also feature more challenging content for more experienced dancers.

Requirements:

We expect you to know these steps and to be able to dance them socially to a variety of tempos:

  • Pure Bal: up-hold and down-hold basics, as well as ad-lib steps including paddle steps/turns;
  • Bal-Swing: lollies and out-and-ins, throw-outs/toss-outs and some of their variations (e.g. behind the back, long / arm-slide, etc.), swivel steps, inside and outside turns.

Please wear slippery shoes. Leather or suede soles are ideal.
